Increasing Your Income

There’s money everywhere! You just have to find what you like and find creative ways to make money from it.

Below are a few ideas of ways you can make a little extra money:

Part-Time Job

If you have enough spare time on your hands, why not apply for a part-time job?

Depending on where you apply, part-time jobs usually have reasonable flexibility to work with your current schedule.

{Example: When I was in college, I worked at Payless ShoeSource every other Saturday and Sunday, so I wasn’t overwhelmed.}

If you’re open on the weekends, I recommend applying for retail, food, and/or bars that are open late. No one is rushing to work on the weekends, so they’ll be more inclined to hire you if you’re willing to work these hours.

Other great part-time jobs are:

  • Postmates
  • GrubHub
  • Uber
  • Lyft

These are awesome opportunities for those that need to make their own hours. Basically, these jobs give you the option to make as much as you want to. And if you’re not feeling like working one day, no call-in is necessary.

They’re also easy to qualify for:

For Uber, Lyft, and Grubhub you need to have a pretty clean driving record, valid driver’s license, accurate VIN #, non-expired vehicle registration, and car insurance.

For Postmates, last time I checked, you could qualify just by applying. They allow you to choose your choice of transportation; it’s not limited to just a car.

Paid Focus Groups

These are great options for those who have limited spare-time throughout the week, but still wouldn’t mind designating at least a couple hours to make money.

Depending on the focus group, the amount you can earn ranges between: $15-$500+

You can easily find both local and online survey focus groups by doing a quick google search. Just make sure they are credible under to Better Business Bureau (BBB).

You can participate in these focus groups depending on what you qualify for. They usually send email correspondences in regards to what topic they’ll be discussing, how long the study will take, where it is located, and how much they are paying for participation. To ensure you qualify for their study, they send quick surveys with questions regarding the subject.

Ideally, you can make a nice amount of cash by participating in multiple focus groups. As far as I know, there is no limit as to how many you can join.

Selling Items

Another quick way to make extra money is selling items you have laying around your home.

By using Apps like Craigslist, LetGo, and OfferUp, you can easily sell anything from clothes and/or furniture, to vehicles and/or cell phones.

Also, if you’re the crafty type, you can use Apps such as Etsy, to sell cute homemade items for some extra cash.

Donating Blood

This option not only compensates well, but it also helps you contribute to saving lives. The gift that keeps on giving.

Before donating, please consult your doctor and the blood facility’s representative to make sure this is safe for you to participate in.

On average, for first-time donors, they offer between $40-$50 each time you donate blood. Which means on a monthly basis, you can earn around $160-$200 after donating 4 times.

The first time you donate, it usually takes around 4-6 hours in order to properly qualify you and establish your information in their system. So go prepared!

Note: You cannot donate blood unless you’ve eaten a hearty breakfast. Additionally, you shouldn’t ingest much salt, sugar, or caffeine prior to donating. Also, make sure you bring your photo ID, and one other form of identification before you donate. (I usually bring my Social Security Card with me.)

Consult with the facility’s representative regarding their initial process. It may vary between Donation Centers.

Donating Eggs/Sperm

The act of blessing someone with the capability to conceive their own child, is definitely a gift beyond words. However, this option does require deep consideration before you opt to make this commitment.

When donating your eggs or sperm, you’re agreeing to allow strangers to use your genetics to create another human being; so basically, there’s going to be a mini you running around the world.

On a financial standpoint, by donating sperm you can earn around $1,000/month depending on the facility.

For women, you can earn between $3,500 to $8,000 for every egg donation cycle.

Although the compensation is high, the process for donating can be laborious, depending on the woman/man. Make sure you do adequate research on the entire process and legalities, before opting to donate!

Paid Medical Studies

These are a mixture of Paid Focus Groups and Donating Eggs/Sperm. Essentially, the task you’d be required to engage in can range from answering questions (like a focus group) to testing newly developed medications (basically donating your body to science, without a removal of an organ.)

It all depends on your comfort level! Do not try something out that seems outrageous just for the compensation. You don’t want the risks to outweigh the benefits.

But nonetheless, it is a way to earn money, so check it out and see what you think!

Ask For Raise

This last option can seem intimidating, but if you’re a consistently hard-working, dependable, and efficient employee, try it out!

Ideally, you would have been employed at your current job for 12 months or longer, rarely arrive to work late, and consistently perform at your best before you do this.

If you didn’t already receive an annual raise, ask your boss for a professional assessment on your performance. If they oblige, and give you an exceptional review, go ahead and ask if they can potentially raise your wage.

If they don’t, it opens the door to ask them “why?”. Sometimes, they’ll have you consult with human resources in order to process that request.

I hope you all found these helpful! These are just a couple of things I’ve personally participated in, or found interesting; be sure to Google: Extra Ways to Make Money for other ideas that may suit you better!
